The Gospel of John: The Upper Room Discourse

Episode Notes:

Focus Scripture: John 13; Mark 14

The advent of Holy Week is both joyful and somber as we see Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem only to see His death on a cross by week’s end. He was welcomed by the people who, in only a matter of days, would cry out, “Crucify Him!” During the evening before His arrest, Jesus shared some special time with His disciples to prepare them for what was to occur in the hours come, to teach them about what greatness truly means, and to give them hope for the days beyond the cross. It is known as The Upper Room Discourse that encompasses chapters 13 through 17 of John’s gospel. This week’s podcast examines the event of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet, revealing the one who would betray Jesus, and the institution of communion, also known as The Lord’s Supper. As always, I hope today’s message will speak to your heart and be a blessing to you as the good Lord wills.

Blessings,

“God never leaves you nor forsakes you.” I’ve heard that before.  “Jesus will leave the 99 to come after you.” I’ve heard that one too.  Meanwhile, fear creeps up when life hurls a season of loneliness our way, and poof! Churchy sayings hold as much weight as thin air.  Believe it or not, God is cheering us on and inviting us to thrive amidst the loneliness. Yes, it’s weird and scary, but this emptiness is a safe space where you get to hear the God of everything speak the loudest. You’re safe because God is so good at owning goodness, and because of Him, you aren’t so by yourself.”
