“Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”Acts 1:11
When Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples continued to stare up at the sky. Almost as if they were waiting for Jesus to peek back through the clouds and return to say, “I’m just messing with you guys!” It seems that the two men, probably angels, had to give them a nudge to be about the mission Jesus had given them. To go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them all that Jesus taught them.
Sometimes, we can become distracted by staring at the clouds, waiting for the Lord’s return to rapture His church. Rightfully so, for Jesus tells us to be at the ready, to keep watch, but not to the extent that we fail to seek the lost, share the gospel, and make disciples. Therefore, as we embark on a new work week, let us be persistent in our endeavors to keep watch for the day of our Lord’s rapture of His church and to fulfill our calling of the great commission– to make disciples.
