Daily Bible Verse

“Therefore let’s not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this: not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother’s or sister’s way.”

Romans 14:13

Here we see Apostle Paul expressing the need for more mature or strong-faith Christians to not confuse or pose a stumbling block for less mature Christians whose faith is less developed. In this case, Paul is speaking to people who know that all food is clean for those who follow Jesus Christ but should refrain from eating such foods if it were to confuse or become a stumbling block for younger Christians. A crude modern-day example would be a mature Christian who, on occasion, drinks an alcoholic beverage. Yet, the less mature Christian who observes this action begins to drink regularly, becomes addicted and falls into sin.

Christians must always consider the spiritual well-being of their brothers and sisters. They must always guard their actions and words to protect those whose faith is still in its infancy. Even if the actions of mature Christians are biblically sound, preserving and nurturing their brother or sister’s faith and relationship with Jesus is paramount. Therefore, let us make every effort to look out for one another, to be an encourager of the faith, not a diminisher. Apostle Paul might put it this way, “with humility, let us consider others more important than ourselves.”
