Daily Bible Verse: The Twinkling of an Eye

“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.”

1 Cortinthians 15:52

Apostle Paul is describing to the Corinthian church the event known to Christians as the rapture. The term rapture means to be caught up or swept away. It refers to a point in time when Jesus will call the people of His church, both the dead and the living, to rise and meet Him in the clouds, and at which time, we will enter into paradise with Him and be in His presence forever. The advent of the rapture should not be confused with the Lord’s Second Coming, which is another point in time when He will return to earth and establish His millennial kingdom. Before that occurs, the world must first endure the Great Tribulation period.

The rapture plays a pivotal role in ushering in the Great Tribulation Period foretold by Jesus. Jesus said, “At that time, there will be two men in the field; one will be taken, and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken, and one will be left,” and it will happen in the blink of an eye Paul writes. Let’s put it in the modern setting. A man and woman stand at the altar to be married; one will be taken, and one will be left. One hundred people are attending a worship service; 30 will be taken, and 70 will be left. Those left behind will face the tribulation period. The sudden disappearance of billions of people worldwide will set nations against one another and neighbor against neighbor, and lawlessness will ensue, and chaos will engulf the earth.

However, the body of Christ, everyone who accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord and faithfully followed Him, will stand before the Bema seat of Christ and partake in the marriage supper of the Lamb. It will be a glorious time for the faithful and yet, a tragic time for those on earth. That is why Jesus came into the world, to pay our penalty of sin, to die on a cross so all might be saved and partake in eternal life in heaven. When it comes to our eternal destiny, there are two roads to travel; one that leads to heaven by following Jesus, or the other that leads to hell by rejecting Him. As the signs of the times become more evident, the unsure must ask themselves, “Which road am I traveling?” It is not too late to cross over to the narrow path, for whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved!

Blessings.
