Stand Firm in the Faith

“Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.”

Jude 1:3

Jude tells us some people did not believe in Jesus Christ and were scoffers at the time of this writing. They planned to create disharmony within the body of believers and pervert the Truth. He even speaks of people who were devious and were among the fellowship of believers who sought to distort the teachings provided by God. They sought to warp this message into one loaded with depravity and deny Jesus Christ being the one true Lord and Savior (Jude 1:4).

Jude’s thoughts regarding the time in history they were shared, I see that the same concerns are very much present today. Scoffers of the Good News (Jesus Christ) are present in the twenty-first century, and they seek to distort the Truth about salvation through Jesus Christ. Many do not feel Jesus is the Way, Truth, and Life and the only way to achieve salvation and spend eternity in Heaven with God the Father (John 14:6)! If we deny Christ before mankind, He will deny us before His Father in Heaven (Matthew 10:33)! Not good!

Jude tells us to build ourselves up in our faith, pray in the Holy Spirit, and keep ourselves in God’s love (Jude 1:20-21). Jude leaves us with key and critical teaching about the scoffers and doubters: “Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh” (Jude 1:22-23). Following what the Bible says I should do, I will seek to be merciful and kind and reflect the light of Jesus Christ to those who doubt and pray that this will make a difference for them!

Self-reflection considerations: As a follower of Jesus Christ, am I standing firm in my faith and not yielding to the teachings of the scoffers? Am I demonstrating mercy and kindness to people who do not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior and teaching them about the plan of salvation?

Many blessings to you!
