“Beloved, let’s love one another; for love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.”
1 John 4:7

We use the term “love” to express how we feel about different things in our lives. For example, we love our wives or our husbands, we love our children and our pets, and we even love chocolate cake and ice cream. Simply put, we love to use the word love, but when Apostle John used the term love, he used the original Greek word agapao, which refers to an all-encompassing sacrificial love, the love Jesus expressed to humanity by His willingness to go to the cross at Calvary.
Let’s be clear. Love is not love, as the modern slogan suggests. Why? Because Scripture says that “God is love,” and because God is love, it is impossible for that which is ungodly to be love. In actuality, the modern slogan confuses love with lust, i.e., the lust of the flesh. Therefore, if the slogan said, “lust is lust,” it would fit the world’s mold perfectly and quite accurately. Again, the Bible says that God is love and because God is love, then we are to love as God loves and keep love within the boundaries set forth in God’s holy word. In the absence of God, there can be no love, and if there is no love, what is left? Exactly, lust, hate, deceit, corruption, and so on.
John urges all believers to love one another as God so loves us, with an all-giving love. What makes agapao such perfect love is the fact that God Himself is love, and everyone who has been born again, born of God, knows God, and to know God is to know His love, and to know His love is to know how to share that love with others. God’s love is both all-reaching, deeply penetrating, and without end. It is love the world will never comprehend or embrace because it requires repentance and a willingness to turn from sin. While the world may never change until the Lord’s return, we can make a difference today, one soul at a time by sharing God’s love.
Therefore, in the day ahead, be encouraged to meditate on God’s love and make a genuine effort to share His love with everyone you meet by letting them see His love in you. It’s how we show and tell the gospel.
Blessings.
