Are We Near the End Times?

“Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go, pour out the seven bowls of God’s wrath on the earth.”

Revelation 16:1/NIV

In the book of Revelation, much discussion occurs about disastrous events that occur during the end times. This book is very descriptive regarding God’s wrath poured upon those who have the beast’s mark and worship his image. Revelation 16:2 (NIV) describes just one of the “seven bowls” of God’s wrath to come upon Satan’s flock: “The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly, festering sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.” Knowing what God plans to do to those not a part of His fold does not look good! A reasonable person would choose a different path in life, specifically, one that does not involve the beast, the anti-Christ, or Satan!

Revelation 16 provides more description about God’s wrath and what this will look like during the “end times.” Are we near the “end times?” I am not sure, but we are certainly closer than when God delivered this message to John as written in the book of Revelation. As I listen to many seasoned theologians, they are not sure how close we are, but each agrees that we are closer than yesterday. The Bible does not provide information regarding when the “end times” will occur, and apparently, only God knows and has not disclosed this to anyone. Jesus said: “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” (Mark 13:32/NIV). What? Neither the angels nor Jesus knows when the end of time will be? Only God knows, and He has not revealed this to anyone!

As I think about disastrous events that have occurred in my lifetime, I recognize things that the Bible (Revelation 16) foretold would happen in the last days. Believing we are closer to the end of time, my goal is to follow God’s plan and will for my life. I seek to spend time in God’s Word daily and learn how I should be. As a follower of Jesus Christ, I will continue to spread the Gospel about Jesus Christ (Mark 16:15) and participate in the great commission (Matthew 28:18-20), seeking to disciple others. Time is running out, and I want to spread the good news about Jesus Christ to as many people as possible so they will not perish.

Self-reflection considerations: As we draw closer to the “end times,” do I know Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and Lord? Do I need to participate in the great commission and spread the Gospel?

Many blessings to you!
