“But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”
Matthew 13:57b/NIV
As we read the Bible, we learn that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, positively impacted the people He encountered. We know about the many miracles performed by Jesus. Some of which include feeding thousands of people, casting out evil spirits, healing people from many physical afflictions, turning water into wine, controlling the elements of nature, and raising people from the dead to include himself (as a part of the Trinity). In the twenty-first century, people desire someone with the talent and the ability to make profound and essential changes.

Matthew 13 tells us a different perspective regarding citizens of Jesus’ time and hometown. Matthew provides a disappointing and sobering view of their doubts: “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” And they took offense at him” (13:55-57a/NIV). Though Jesus had performed many miracles and wonders for thousands of people, many individuals did not accept Him. I guess you can’t get respect in your hometown!
Upon reading the Old Testament, there are many prophecies about Jesus Christ’s coming and why. Many prophecies spoke of His extraordinary gifts and skills. In the days when Jesus walked the earth, He had people directly observing His miracles and wonders, but they were still in disbelief and rejected Him. Old Testament prophecy even foretold the rejection of Jesus Christ by humanity, and sad to say, also by people from His hometown.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 10:33 that whoever denies knowing Him before mankind will deny them before the Father (God). As I read the passages in Matthew 10 and 13, I want to make sure I spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and assist the lost with finding salvation through Him! Though I was not in Jesus’ presence when he performed the miracles recorded in the Bible, believing the scriptures are God’s inspired Word, I believe they occurred as recorded. I hope that my testimony and witness would make a difference with others and point them towards Jesus Christ! I also hope my praise, adoration, and presenting the Gospel to others honors Jesus Christ!
Self-reflection consideration: How can I bring honor to Jesus Christ through my testimony and actions?
Many blessings to you!
