Fly Like An Eagle

“Those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.”

Isaiah 40:31

It is not uncommon for us to engage a new week with energetic confidence after a rejuvenating relaxing weekend of being unplugged from the world; however, confidence in only ourselves invites temptation and the potential to fall into sin. For example, becoming angered when someone cuts us off in traffic, the boss approaches us with a cranky attitude, or whatever the case may be, the world can quickly wear us down to where we feel as if we are sinking in a slough of despond. However, when we rely solely on our strength and determination. We need God’s power to guard us against the spiritual warfare waged against us day after day, hour by hour, and from one minute to the next.

“How happy are those whose way is blameless, who walk according to the Lord’s instruction! Happy are those who keep his decrees and seek him with all their heart. They do nothing wrong; they walk in his ways. You have commanded that your precepts be diligently kept. If only my ways were committed to keeping your statutes! Then I would not be ashamed when I think about all your commands. I will praise you with an upright heart when I learn your righteous judgments. I will keep your statutes; never abandon me.”

Psalm 119:1-8/CSB

The author of Psalm 119 in the Old Testament ends the first stanza with a plea asking God never to abandon him. That plea is so crucial to everything the psalmist acknowledges beforehand. The psalmist recognized that when left to his own devices, his strength alone, he fails the Lord, and as a result, he is ashamed. He also sees the result when people rely on and are guarded by God’s strength; they are happy, blameless, and not ashamed. Therefore, as we set out to engage the week and serve as salt and light to the world, let us ask for God’s watchful eye and mighty hand to guard over us and to strengthen us, for He is faithful to do so. When it comes to dealing with the world and the thought of God abandoning us, for those who pursue God with all of their heart, Scripture gives us the promise below:

“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or in dread of them, for the Lord your God is the One who is going with you. He will not desert you or abandon you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6/CSB

Blessings.
