“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”
2 Peter 1:3/NIV
The Bible is God’s inspired Word for humanity to read and reflect upon to provide guidance regarding how we should live. The Bible clearly warns us about snares that we may encounter in life and how we can avoid them. God’s Word tells us “wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it” (Matthew 7:13-14). In these passages helpful insight is found to assist with finding the path and route that leads to life: “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” After reading this, I will enter the “small gate and narrow road” that will lead me in the direction of a godly life!
After making a good decision that leads to life, now what do I do? Peter provides helpful teaching regarding how I may find the better way: “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:5-8/NIV). If I follow these teachings I will be effective and productive with doing the Lord’s work while living a godly life!
The teachings examined provide clear insight about the qualities I should have that will assist with living a godly life. As I am human, and someone created with the ability to choose which direction to head into, it is not always easy to go down the path that I should. However, if I stay in God’s Word daily, dwell on essential passages, and commit Bible verses to memory, this will assist me with living a godly life.
If I follow the teachings of Peter, I should do well: “Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:10-11/NIV). If I do what the Bible says and follow God’s plan for me, confirmation of my calling to be a follower of Jesus Christ will occur. I will live a godly life, never stumble, and will receive a rich welcome as I enter into the eternal kingdom! Amen!
Self-reflection consideration: as a follower of Jesus Christ who has been called to do the work placed before me, am I living a godly life and doing what I should be doing?
Many blessings to you!
