How To Be Prosperous And Successful

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Joshua 1:8/NIV

Everyone wants to be successful in life! If someone desired to become a “rocket scientist,” I imagine they would study appropriately to achieve their goal. They would take as many science-related classes as possible to learn what they would need to design rockets. As the person learned what they would need to, it is easy to imagine they would be in the books day and night for many years. A “well studied” soul should be better prepared to achieve success with their desired objective.

Much like a “rocket scientist,” if someone desired to become a biblical scholar, they too would be in the appropriate texts day and night for years. Daily Bible reading would be considered essential and a norm for the person. Reviewing and studying other related biblical literature would be critically important with becoming knowledgeable with biblical teaching. The Bible is also God’s inspired Word which contains vital information we need to know. I imagine someone who becomes a biblical scholar would be well equipped to lead others in some fashion. Perhaps that is what God was seeking to impress upon Joshua!

With the focal verse, we see where God is giving Joshua, the leader of the Israelite nation, instructions that will lead to his success regarding God’s plan. God tells Joshua to read His Word daily, meditate on it routinely, and do everything written. As Joshua followed God’s instructions, he was assured that he would be prosperous and successful. As you read the book of Joshua, you see where he sought to do what the Bible says routinely, and as such, he was prosperous and successful while following God’s will and plan for him.

God tells Joshua: “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go” (Joshua 1:7/NIV). Though this biblical passage was directed to Joshua, it applies to us. A person who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Personal Savior should read and meditate upon the Bible and follow the instructions provided. As we follow God’s teachings, we should do so in a “strong and courageous” fashion with confidence we will be “prosperous and successful” while doing the Lord’s work. Amen!

Many blessings to you!
