The Twists and Turns of Life

“For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for prosperity and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'”

Jeremiah 29:11

Can you recall a time in your life when you had planned something out, right down to the smallest detail, a time when everything that could go wrong did go wrong? More than likely, your answer to that question is yes, and, of course, we all have and perhaps more times than we care to remember. That is not to say we are poor planners or careless in our planning, missing this detail or that feature that causes everything to go haywire. It is due to the simple fact that we cannot always anticipate every possibility; we cannot see today what tomorrow holds.

However, God can see what tomorrow holds with perfect clarity better than we can recall yesterday’s events. He knows whether you ought to take that new job or keep your current job. He knows if you should marry the person whom you believe is right for you. God knows what is best for each of us because He is not bound by linear time. He is omnipresent, meaning He is present in all places at all times. Since God not only sees into tomorrow but is already there, He knows the outcome; He knows what is best for us.

As I look back on the eddies and currents of life with all of its unexpected twists and turns, I now realize that each event was critical to my being where I am today, which is right where God wants me. Oh sure! I can honestly say that I felt frustrated, defeated, and mystified why so many doors of opportunity never opened or opened quickly and closed just as fast. However, in retrospect, it was God’s plan unfolding for my life every step of the way.

Therefore, be encouraged to seek out God’s good counsel today and always, asking Him, “Lord, how should I proceed, what should I do?” Then, sit back and listen because God will answer that prayer. Yes, there will be times when you will not understand why you are being led in a certain direction, but you must follow the Lord by faith. Let us always be faithful to put an unknown future in the hands of a known God because He knows the plans that He has for our lives.
