When Losing a Wiper Blade, Pray Without Ceasing!

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

Ephesians 6:18/NIV

About a month ago, my wife informed me that one of the windshield wipers on her car was coming loose and as I went to check on it and she was right. The wiper did not appear to need replacing, and an adjustment was all it needed at the time….or so I thought. Recently I was driving her car, and a light shower began, and I turned on the wipers, and everything was working fine. I did recall adjusting the passenger-side wiper, and it appeared to be working fine– for a while. The passenger side wiper blade flew off while in motion as I drove down the interstate at 70-miles-per-hour. I guess I’m not half as good at making windshield wiper repairs as I thought I was.  At this point, you better believe prayers for safety were being offered up!

1 John 5:15 (ESV): “And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him…”

With the rain pouring down, I pulled off to the side of the road under a bridge overpass to better inspect my problem. A temporary solution was to lift the passenger-side wiper arm into a 90-degree position and proceed down the road to an auto parts store about 20 miles away. Prayers continued! As I was driving down the interstate with one wiper on the windshield working well and the passenger-side wiper arm sticking straight up in the air, it was a bit of an odd sight to see. A car drove past me, and when it was about 20 yards in front of me, the driver began to slow down to allow me to catch up to him. I imagine he wondered if I had a friendly car that was waiving at him (wiper arm)! Once the driver’s curiosity was satisfied, he took off down the road. Prayers continued!

Mark 11:24 (ESV): Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Though the passenger-side wiper was long gone, the driver’s side wiper was working well, but there was some visual impairment with the one blade missing. Prayers continued!  I eventually made it to the auto parts store, and they had a wiper blade for me. After installing it, I was on my way again with both wipers working perfectly, and I quickly gave thanks to God for His love, graciousness and answered prayer: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever” (Psalm 107:1, NIV).

Ephesians 6:18 encourages us to pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests, and that I did! God was kind and gracious and allowed me safe passage despite this unexpected event! When I read 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (ESV), I am glad that I “prayed without ceasing.” I successfully survived this dilemma and“rejoiced and gave thanks”: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”  Never forget the importance of prayer– especially if you lose a wiper blade!

Many blessings to you!
