“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”
James 3:17/NIV
We live in a time where world leaders speak in a manner that reflects self-centered desires and motives. Their actions have led to war, and innocent people suffer and die. I am wondering from what wisdom these international leaders are drawing. When they make a decision that leads to a devastating outcome, I fail to see evidence of wise choices and actions. The Bible offers helpful teaching and insight regarding why people think and act the way they do – let’s explore further.
James 3:16 helps us understand the lack of wisdom and bad behaviors by others: “For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice” (NIV). This biblical passage helps us understand bad decisions people make and their lack of wisdom. Envy and selfish desires will lead to bad decisions and deviant behaviors. A covetous and self-centered nature will most likely rob a person of wisdom and lead to poor decisions and deviant behaviors. Is there a better way of thinking and acting that reflects wisdom?
James 3:13 provides insight into wise decisions and actions. James writes: “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom” (NIV). James indicates that the actions of a wise person will be reflected in their “good life.” Also, their deeds demonstrated in a modest and humble fashion will reflect their wisdom and what they treasure.
“Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness” (James 3:18/NIV). A person driven by wisdom will be modest and humble. They will be peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere! When considering what wisdom looks like, the Bible provides a clearer picture. A wise person will proceed in life, reflecting the qualities identified! As we sow in peace, we will reap a harvest of righteousness! Now…that is what wisdom looks like!
Many blessings to you!
