Proverbs 3:5-6
At some point in life, we have all heard the expression, “That’ll be the day!” The phrase describes something that a person believes will never occur, such as a global society that does not run on a system of economics but where the people genuinely love and care for one another. Imagine a society where dreams can be reality and where justice is void of corruption and full of mercy and grace. Imagine a world where humanity’s petty differences have no place, where divisions among the people based on skin color, nationality, or political ideologies do not exist. Can you imagine such a world? Many people would say, “That’ll be the day.”
That will be the day because such a day is indeed coming. The Bible refers to that time as the millennial reign of Christ or the Messianic Kingdom when Jesus will take His rightful place as the King of this world. It will answer the centuries of prayer lifted by the faithful, asking, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” The church, the bride of Christ, will also return and reign with the Lord and oversee the survivors of the great tribulation period. There will be survivors who continue to live in mortal bodies and procreate just as the human race does today. It will be a time of infinite joy and peace worldwide, but why only a thousand years? Why not for eternity?
The Bible teaches that Satan must be set free for a short time after the 1000-year reign is complete. Why? Scripture does not specify why that must occur. Perhaps it is to afford Satan one last opportunity to repent. For reasons only known to God, Satan is set free, and he picks up where he left off by deceiving many, and again, nations will rise against the saints and their beloved city, Jerusalem. However, unlike the Battle of Armageddon that preceded the millennial reign, no battle takes place. It’s over before it begins, as fire will fall from heaven and consume them, and Satan will be cast into the lake of fire, forever separated from God.
What does this mean to us in the here and now? How does this help us cope with the daily grind of the world that Satan now rules, one who is relentless in his attempts to wear us down, cause us to stumble into sin, and even fall away from the faith? It reminds us that Jesus is our hope, strength, and fortress. We know that in the end, Satan loses, and God’s light overcomes the darkness of evil. The battle is already won for humanity, and by our faith in the risen Lord, He will always strengthen us and walk us through any storm.
When we place our absolute faith in God and anchor to His word and lean not on our understanding, He will make our paths straight and lead us through whatever trial, circumstance, or obstacle stands in our way. One day, we will enter into His presence forever, and yes, that’ll be the day for sure, a day without end for all eternity. Therefore, let us reinforce our commitment to always keep our eyes on Jesus and serve Him by faith and faith alone to reach the lost, recall the strayed, and grow closer to Him with each step we take and every breath we breathe. When we do so, we will focus less on this fallen world a more on the kingdom that is to come, the kingdom of God.
