As many people have heard of Michael w smith, they most likely have attended one of his concerts and heard the recordings he has produced. “Our God is an awesome God” has a catchy sound and lyrics which are easy to remember. Humming and meditating on the lyrics can help you survive a tough moment when you feel alone and desperate.
Recently while my wife and I were on vacation in a cabin in the mountains, we were sitting on the deck one night, and from across the valley, you could hear a young child singing. We could not make out most of what the child was saying, but when the chorus was sung, we could hear the words: “our God is an awesome God.” He kept singing this repeatedly, which caused my wife and me to chuckle and smile. Of the many songs that could have been sung, this one was of great value and very important to that young child! The child sang loudly and sent a message to anyone in the valley!
My wife and I listened to the young child sing for a while, and when there was a moment of silence, I hollered out loud: “yes, our God is an awesome God!” We were not surprised to hear chuckles and laughter from across the way, but I hope the parents told their child: “way to go – you’re doing what the Bible says to do!” I was proud of this young child who was willing to witness to others and didn’t even know it. That presents a significant teaching opportunity for us! We should be ready to share our faith and beliefs with others because it may offer them hope and is what they need to hear to get through a tough moment!
That that makes me think of the Great Commission and discipling others about God and Jesus Christ. Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV): “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Followers of Jesus Christ should continually be actively involved in the Great Commission and delivering the Good News about Him to others. I am very proud of the Young singer in the mountains who was involved with discipling others! Our God is an awesome God indeed! Amen!
