“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”John 14:6/NIV
Several years ago, I was very busy with many things on my day off from work. I started the day by taking one of my elderly parents to the doctor, followed by many errands at local stores and the pharmacy to complete their shopping needs. Just before lunchtime, I looked at my watch, noticed the time, and thought – “my goodness, how busy I have been on my day off.” At that moment, looking at my list of things to do, there was plenty more to be done. By lunchtime, I felt I had been busier on my day off than during a typical workday.
Coming to the end of my shopping trips and errands, I left a store thankful to have completed this marathon. As I walked to my car, an elderly and feeble man approached me, wanting to know how to get to a nearby town. I knew where he needed to go and what roads to take but felt uncomfortable with verbally providing directions. I asked the man to follow me to show him the direction he needed to go, and this detour took about 30 minutes. As I got him to the final road he would need to take, I stuck my hand out the window and pointed towards the direction he needed to go, and as he passed me, he blew his horn and waved at me as he went down the road.
Later, I thought this meeting was not an accident and felt God was trying to teach me something. When this geographically lost soul sought my help, my brain was busy thinking about all the errands I ran. I was tired from the busy morning and was thankful the marathon was completed. Helping this person was one more thing to think about and do, and I was ready to go home. Maybe God was trying to refocus my attention and reset my priorities in a direction involving helping a lost sheep! Perhaps this was a glimpse from God’s eyes of how my life may have essential concerns, and I need His help, and He is never too busy to take care of me.
As I took the time to help an older man find his way, God does the same for us regarding our eternal destiny! The Bible tells us Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life; there is no way to the Father and eternity in heaven than through Him. God loves us so much that He gave His Son, and as we accept Him as our Savior and Lord, we will find the way to eternity in heaven. Thank you, Jesus, for showing me “The Way.” Moving forward in life, I will seek to point others to Jesus Christ so that they can dwell with Him in eternity in Heaven!
Many blessings to you!
