As we read about the Apostle Paul in the Holy Bible, we know that he was always busy with his ministry during his later years while spreading the Good News about Jesus Christ. As he repented from his sins and professed faith and belief in Jesus Christ, he set forth carrying out the Great Commission involving spreading the Good News about Jesus to others. Paul demonstrated his repentance by his deeds. Paul had work to do!
“So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven. First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.”
Acts 26:19-20/NIV
Ephesians 2:10 informs us followers of Jesus Christ that we are made with God’s fine craftsmanship to do the work He has planned for us to do. We are uniquely and wonderfully made and should spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and participate in the Great Commission. However, differently, we are each not the same and have been blessed with different gifts and skills, and we should seek to utilize these for the wellbeing of others while seeking to bring glory to God.
In Paul’s letter to Timothy, he encourages him to become busy in his ministry: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15/NIV). Paul also tells us to work out our salvation (get busy, which demonstrates our salvation), seeking to fulfill God’s good purpose (Philippians 2:12-13). The Apostle James tells us this: “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead” (James 2:26/NIV). If someone is a follower of Jesus Christ, they will have the Holy Spirit within them, and their faith will be active with deeds bringing glory to God.
As Paul is a messenger inspired by Jesus Christ, he sends followers of Jesus a clear message: demonstrate your repentance by your deeds. The Bible tells us that deeds and works won’t save us (Ephesians 2:8-9). However, as we achieve salvation (John 3:16; Romans 10:9), the Bible tells us that God created us to become servants helping others and to do good works, which he prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10; 1 Peter 4:10). We should seek to demonstrate our repentance and salvation by our deeds!
Self-reflection consideration: As a follower of Jesus Christ who has achieved salvation, do I need to live a deed-oriented life seeking to do the work God has placed before me to do?
