In life, we can often get ourselves all worked up with expectations that sometimes become fulfilled. In contrast, others get deflated like a balloon that rapidly loses its air. We can pray over it and feel aligned with God’s will, yet, our expectations fail to come to fruition. Sometimes we chalk it up to being just a daydream that was not meant to be, while other times, we can lead ourselves on saying, “God is against me” or “God doesn’t care about me, I’m not part of His plan.” Nothing could be farther from the truth, and here is why.
We must keep in perspective that it is not God’s responsibility to meet or fulfill all of our expectations in life, though He does want to bless us but only with what is best for us according to His will. We don’t know what is best for ourselves, and we cannot see beyond today, but God can. He knows how tomorrow and the days and years that follow unfold. That is why the Lord’s answer to a specific prayer is sometimes yes, sometimes no, and sometimes wait.
Our problem is we can sometimes become discouraged and impatient and choose to take matters into our own hands to fulfill our expectations. However, more often than not, that is when life can become an entangled mess that can affect not only ourselves but also those within our family and future family. That is what happened in the life of Abraham and Sarah when Sarah became impatient with God to give her a child to allow her to become pregnant. So she took matters into her own hands by having her husband, Abraham, impregnate her maid Hagar- a surrogate mother per se. The continuing result is the mess we see today in the Middle East between the Arab countries and the nation of Israel.
You see, there is no amount of planning, conniving, or easy shortcuts that can accelerate or be better than God’s plan. We must be patient and wait upon the Lord for things to unfold according to His will, His way, and timing. Anything outside that formula will either fail or cause physical or emotional injury to ourselves and others. Sometimes, God allows our plans to play out, but we can never imagine the blessings we missed out on because we chose to be impatient and do it our way.
Therefore, let us renew our commitment to waiting upon the Lord and continue to commune with God through prayer. When He answers our prayer, let us wait when He says to wait, accept no when He says no, and let us go when He says yes! God will never disappoint us because He knows what is best for us and when it’s best to give it to us.
