Stay Focused on Your Mission

“Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

Luke 9:62/NIV

Jesus always kept His eyes forward and engaged in many missions for the good of humanity!  We read about many journeys where Jesus performed miracles to include healing people from afflictions, feeding thousands at more than one gathering, driving out demons and calming nature’s wrath.  He was also a great teacher and mentor for everyone who came in contact with Him.  He left His mark on humanity in many, many ways!  Jesus always had His hands on the plow and never looked back.  What a role model for us!

On one occasion Jesus called the twelve disciples together and commissioned them to go out and “he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick” (Luke 9:1-2/NIV).  As Jesus commissioned them “they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere” (Luke 9:6).  They were fit for service and didn’t look back!

Thinking about this small section of the writings of Luke, much guidance is provided for me as I seek to do the work the Lord has placed before me to do.  Jesus provided the twelve with very simplistic instructions about their mission and He sent them out.  Prior to their mission they walked with Jesus for a longtime and had been taught what they needed to know to proclaim the Good News and heal people from their afflictions.  Their hands were on the plow as they moved forward.

As I read the Bible and dwell on the important lessons, this will provide me with knowledge I will need to do the Lord’s work.  Ephesians 2:10 tells me I am God’s workmanship created through Christ Jesus to do good works which He has prepared for me to do.  As I put my hands on the plow I will not look back and will seek to be fit for service in the kingdom of God seeking to bring glory to Him!

Self-reflection consideration: Am I fit for service and do I have my hands on the plow while looking forward seeking to do the Lord’s work?

Many blessings to you!
