Before You Were Born, I Knew You

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.”

Jeremiah 1:5

These beautiful, heartwarming words of God inform us that even before we conceived in the womb of our mother, God knew us. It shows us that He has a plan for our life, and His love for us is beyond our understanding and surpasses the borders of our imagination. It reveals to us just how precious every life is to God. So much so that He consecrated us, to set us apart, made in His image and likeness, before we were born.

The sad truth is humanity, by large, has disregarded the importance of life and what it means to God, and nowhere is that more prominent, so clearly visible, than in the senseless slaughter of unborn children. Historians of the Second World War recorded that the Nazi regime and its allies executed some 6 million Jews throughout the 6-year war. As shocking as that number is to the mind, it pales compared to some 61 million abortions performed in the United States since 1973.

The biblical mind views life as a gift put in motion by the breath of God. It views abortion as a deliberate act that takes another’s life and stands in violation of God’s written word. The issue of abortion will likely remain a strong dividing force among people worldwide, and it might well remain so until the coming of our Lord.

As Christians, our job is simple; we must go and proclaim the gospel to all that will hear, we must step out and make disciples for Jesus Christ, we must teach them God’s word so they, too, can adopt a biblical worldview. In so doing, perhaps mankind will stop the madness of widespread murder against the innocent and helpless children in the womb.

Therefore, one question remains: “Who can you share the gospel with today?”
