“And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26
The Holy Spirit gives every born-again believer a spiritual gift or gifts. Therefore, no Christian can say he or she is without a ministry because everyone has a calling, a ministry in which to evangelize, share the gospel, and make disciples.
The Lord has empowered you with the gift to fulfill that calling, and He will do so for any ministry work in which He calls you to serve. God will give us what we need to be successful in whatever He calls us to do. We must understand and believe that because Satan wants two words etched in our minds when it comes to serving the Lord, they are “we can’t.” However, the truth is we can because Jesus tells us with God, all things are possible.
For example, if someone told me 30 years ago that I would preach God’s word in the pulpit, I would have told them, “No way, man! You’ll never see me speaking in front of people, much less sharing God’s word.” Yet, today. I am doing just that because of who He is and the power, presence, and gift of the Holy Spirit who lives within me. If you believe by faith, that same power He freely gives to you.
If we fail to faithfully employ our spiritual gifts to answer God’s to serve and build up the church, we are telling God, “No.” Whether it stems from a lack of faith or an unwillingness to do as the Spirit leads, it is a clear sign that we have not fully surrendered ourselves to God’s will. Disaster is inevitable when we insist on calling the shots in our lives apart from God’s will.
Instead, we must always recognize we have a God-given job to serve as salt and light in the world and seek out the lost, share the gospel, and make disciples. God gifts us each accordingly to fulfill that calling and others. We must faithfully do the work the Lord has called us to do in His name to build the church toward spiritual maturity.
Therefore, take the time to pray and discern what spiritual gifts you have been given. Take a risk and try different opportunities in various ministries to see where your strengths are and grow from there. You might be surprised how the Lord has gifted you, and you will indeed be blessed when doing the Lord’s work.
