It’s Never Too Late to Call Upon the Lord

“Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Romans 10:3

When we think about the life of Billy Graham, we are confident that he is living in eternal glory with Jesus. When we think about the life of someone like Adolf Hitler, we are convinced that he is living eternally in hell. Now, the rub comes in when our minds face the possibility that even Hitler, a man who declared war on the world, might well be in heaven. “That’s crazy! There’s no way!” You might say. But indeed, there is a way.

Jesus once shared a parable about a vineyard owner who went out early in the morning to hire some workers. When the man and the workers agreed on a fair day’s wage, the workers went out into the vineyard. Later that day, the owner hired some more workers who also went out and worked in the vineyard. Still, near day’s end, the owner hired another man and sent him into the vineyard too.

When it came time to pay the workers, the owner gave each worker the same day’s wage. The workers who had labored hard all day were upset with the owner because the man who only worked for one hour received the same pay as the others. The owner said, “I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what is yours and go, but I want to give this last person the same I gave to you. Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with what is mine? Or is your eye envious because I am generous?

Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven is like the landowner and the vineyard. In other words, it’s not God’s desire that anyone should perish, which is to say, face the second death and be cast into the lake of fire, also referred to as hell. Billy Graham once said, “Christ belongs to all people, He belongs to the whole world,” and while God may disapprove with how a person chooses to live, act, and treat others, He loves them no less than He loves you and me.

That’s why if someone like Adolf Hitler genuinely called upon the name of the Lord in the fleeting moments of his life, he would go to heaven. Anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord, whether early or late in life, right up to the point of death, He will grant them all the same reward– eternal life in heaven. No matter how young or old you are, it’s never too late to turn to Jesus and be born again.

God loves you more than you can imagine, and His desire for you is to be with Him in heaven forever. He’s on your side! Put your trust in Him by faith today. You will be glad and amazed that you did.
