As we read about the life of Jesus Christ in the Bible, we understand that God sent His son to earth as an atonement for our sins. Whoever repents of their sins and expresses faith and belief in Jesus Christ will receive salvation and eternity in heaven (John 3:16; Romans 10:9). Jesus demonstrated love to humanity and commanded His disciples to love one another (John 15:12; 15:17). The many acts of kindness and compassion that Jesus showed toward others included: teaching, ministering, love, healing people from their afflictions, feeding the hungry, and giving His life so that humanity could achieve salvation through faith and belief in Him. That is a shortlist of His many acts of kindness, and I encourage you to read the Bible to learn more.
As we consider the kindness of Jesus regarding humanity, it would be conceivable that He would be the most popular and sought-after person in existence! As we read the Bible, it is sad to see that He was neither liked nor welcomed by some who heard about or knew Him. Even though He demonstrated love towards humanity, He was rejected by many. In time, He hung on a cross to die because of the resentment others held towards Him. After Jesus’s resurrection from the grave, He did not harbor resentment towards those who rejected Him but continued His acts of kindness towards everyone until he ascended to heaven. What a role model for us!
Followers of Jesus Christ should seek to think, talk, and act like Him and be obedient regarding the command He gave us: “love one another.” As we seek to be a friend to others while taking care of God’s lambs and His sheep, we too may be unjustifiably scorned, rejected, and mistreated, unfortunately. While enduring this bitter sting of unjustified mistreatment by others, as Jesus is our role model, we should seek to respond like Him – do not give in to the ill-will of others but follow His command: “love one another.”
While enduring the bitter sting of betrayal, rejection, and mistreatment by others, I will encourage you to dwell on the following Bible verses and commit them to memory which should provide you with comfort and strength: The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged (Deuteronomy 31:8).
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging (Psalm 46:1-3/NIV).
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me, Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows (Psalm 23: 4-5/NIV).
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid because the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6/NIV).
