There have been seasons in my life when I was entrusted with many responsibilities: family, work, healthcare provider, chaplain duties, volunteer activities, and taking care of the wellbeing of others. A personal influential biblical passage is John chapter 21, where Jesus tells Peter if he loves Him, he should take care of and tend to the lambs and sheep (humanity). This passage has been a focal point and motivating force, leading me to tend to God’s sheep. That has guided my daily priority-setting, decision-making, goals, and actions. Over time, I found I have become very busy tending to the lambs and sheep and doing the work God entrusted me to do.
As we are God’s creations, we are here to do the work He has placed before us to do: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10/ESV). From a biblical perspective, I am on earth for a season to do the work God has planned for me to do. I may think differently from a humanistic perspective, reflecting self-centered and ego-driven desires! The biblical perspective would be correct in God’s eyes, the latter correct in man’s eyes. Which would be correct? I choose God!
There have been times when I faced tough decisions, resulting in considering the potential options that could have been appropriate. I ruled out the bad and less desirable alternatives and more strongly considered what potential healthy and optimal choices were left. I have had times in life where the greater priority involved the well-being of others, and my decisions were for their good, even though I could suffer in the long run. Decisions, decisions! What would be the best decision to make? I wonder what Jesus would do?
Jesus Christ is God’s perfect Son, my Savior, and Lord, and I know of His perfect qualities and sinless nature. The focal verse (1 Peter 4:10) tells Christians that we should use whatever gift and qualities God has given to serve others as faithful stewards of His grace in its various forms. Considering the focal verse, Jesus did this: He was a faithful Steward of His Father’s grace, which He extended to others as a Servant! While serving others as a faithful steward of God’s grace, I will seek to be like my Role Model – Jesus Christ! I will let my light shine before others as a servant who will bring glory to my Heavenly Father! Amen!
